Pistol shooting in the southwest

Hi folks, thanks for taking the time to read this. I'm currently living in the south west near bath and after years of shooting competition match have been lured by the appeal of co2 shooting. Was just wondering if anyone out there could enlighten me on the following;-

1- are there any good co2 shooting clubs or events in the south west.

2- in order to take part in the ipas/police/6 yd shoots etc, other than the obvious pistol, pellets and co2 cartridges, what equipment do you need / recommend for starting out.

3- in terms of competitions, do you need to sign up or is a turn up on the day style event?

4 - do you need safety glasses when shooting?

And I guess any other helpful hints and tips as am currently a pilot in the rag and there seems to be some interest from the guys so any information I get will be passed onto them.
Cheers

I'm in the SE US so don't know about pistol clubs in the SW UK: but we have way more than enough shooting events here on the UBC Forum to keep any shooter busy!  Smilie_PDT

Some of our guys like to wear holsters for our Police events, but they're not really necessary.

Shooting glasses SHOULD always be worn: but most of us are fools, like me, and don't bother. I always wear eye and ear protection when shooting cartridge guns, but not with air guns. And no, I'm not saying that's what you should do.

Point noted on the glasses. I'm sure my pallets will suffice and will try not to shoot myself in the face....though giving an airforce officer a gun is always a dangerous thing:-)

Interestingly, USAF officers always carried .38 revolvers, until all the services switched over to the 9mm Beretta in the 1990's. The other services used to carry the .45 automatic.

The reason the US Air Force used the revolver was to better enable an injured/crashlanded pilot to use his sidearm. (Ever consider what fun it would be to reload an automatic pistol if one of your arms is broken?)

The reason the raf uses it is because it was cheap and we got a job lot.
Thankfully we are getting sigs in the next year or so, which means we may actually get to hit something on the range;-)

Though it makes absolute sense to use a revolver though I'm guessing the fact you can cock the hammer separately means its workable. Though I do think we should all get .50ae desert eagles. A lot more fun!!!

The RAF were always the last to get new equipment. Were were still wearing tin hats in 1989 and carrying SLR's and SMG's (stens) till 1992.

Well, you know what the say...'rise above the rest'. Mind you in best British spirit we have been doing soo much , with soo little, for soo long, that we can now do anything with nothing!
Hurrah!

I guess I just found out why you never present square on to the target Rick. Makes it easier to walk sideways to inspect the damage!

All said in fun and with the untmost respect to both!
